Andrés Muñoz Claros – artist in residence 2025
Searching for his own cultural identity, Andrés Muñoz Claros, born in Bogotá, travelled to the Amazonian rainforest, birthplace of his mother, Leticia. He set down his impressions and experiences in more than fifty drawings and paintings. Far from feeling like an “explorer” of uncharted territory, the artist moved like one of many tourists in his own country. The thicket of the jungle became a metaphor for the many questions that arose for the artist.
Overwhelmed by the explosion of colour, he started working in black and white. It was only later that he began using his own colour-palette to recreate the atmosphere of his travels. Disruptive perspectives and reduced forms are unique to his work. In this way, Andrés Muñoz Claros creates intuitive and raw paintings.
The residency at Maison Heinrich Heine is accompanied by the exhibition “Aproximaciones”
