Funds for Artists of stART.up

Project funding for active and former fellows of stART.up: The Claussen-Simon-Foundation’s “Was zählt!”-Funding for artists wants to encourage active and former fellows of stART.up, to approach new projects or to rethink already started projects (that cannot be realized in these times), or to take their time to research and conceptualize long-ranging projects.

WAS ZÄHLT! – WE KEEP DISTANCE AND MOVE TOGETHER

The Claussen-Simon-Foundation reorganizes its funding activities for the present year. To support our fellows of stART.up we have issued a “Was zählt!”-Fund for artists of stART.up amounting to 100.000 Euros. This supports our active and former fellows in timely conceptualizing alternative projects to absorb some of the deficits due to the confinements of public and cultural life.

Furthermore, we establish a “Was zählt!”-Fund for Teaching and Learning in Hamburg. Because of the corona crisis and the consequential changes for Hamburg’s educational system, Hamburg’s schools and universities face new challenges. Our “Was zählt!”-Funding for teaching and learning wants to support educational institutions to meet these demands. Therefore, we have provided 300.000 Euros.  In cooperation with the Hans Weisser Stiftung, that provided another 100.000 Euros for the field of education, we also support out-of-school educational institutions to meet these demands and to additionally support underprivileged youths.

Additionally, the Claussen-Simon-Foundation partakes in two federal- respectively statewide funds with 100.000 Euros, among others the "Kunst kennt keinen Shutdown"-Fund initiated by the Hamburgische Kulturstiftung.

Pending selection procedures for scholarship programs are performed in digital form. Participants will be informed in time. All further changes and developments will be communicated via our website.

»The Claussen-Simon-Stiftung didn’t just equip me to take on this job financially but also practically, thanks to the stART.up program of seminars and mentorship. How does one apply for project funding? How does one negotiate with location managers, with musicians and service providers? What are the legal implications when it comes to copyright and insurance? And perhaps more fundamentally, how does one marry a creative vision with a marketable product and maintain an authentic artistic identity? All of these questions were directly addressed during my time in the stART.up program, arming me with a battery of hard skills for a realistic future as a freelance artist. At the same time, I have emerged from stART.up and Konzertreihe TABU with what can be called ‘soft’ skills. A clear sense of identity as an artist, belief in my own artistic and business-related abilities and the confidence that what I have to say as an artist is a valid contribution to my community. It is impossible to undervalue the investment that the Claussen-Simon-Stiftung has made in my development and I am deeply grateful for this priceless and formative experience.«
