Requirements

  • PhD graduation completed with summa/magna cum laude, no longer than two years ago
  • you aspire to a habilitation/ junior professorship 
  • experience with committee work and/or academic or extracurricular engagement
  • publication in international journals (peer-reviewed) or other renowned publications
  • research stays abroad
  • main place of residence has to be Hamburg

Integrating the candidate into the faculty

Cooperation agreement: The awarding of scholarships also strengthens the respective academic discipline. That is why the faculty or departement is asked to support the candidat by: 

  • providing a work space, infrastructure, and access to necessary resources (i.e. labs, data, software) 
  • providing funds for material, research trips or conference attendence (up to 600 EURO per year) 
  • making the cooperation offical by signing a contract 
  • aspiring to involve the candidate in the faculty by introducing them into work groups, colloquiums, committees, ect.

Please use our online platform to submit your application and attached the documents listed below. Applications can be submitted in English.

  • letter of intent (2 pages max.)
  • tabular CV (signed)
  • exposé of the topic of your postdoc or habilitation project as well as your choosen methodology (5 to 10 pages) 
  • summary of your PhD thesis (5 pages max.)
  • report by one professor of the faculty containing
    • assessment of the candidate's professional skills and academic suitability
    • confirmation of supervision 
    • statement on the candidate's integration into the factulties work context (i.e. research groups) 
    • statement on possibilities and efforts to secure further employment
  • letter of recommendation of the dean or a teaching member of the faculty, in consultation with the supervisor 
    • with a convincing portrayal of the candidates qualifications
    • with the commitement to involve the candidate into the faculty as well as the guaranteed support by the supervisior 
    • with a commitement to support the candidate's travelling expenses (up to 600 EURO per year)  
  • another outstanding academic report

Applications should only be submitted in consulation with the faculty or departement to ensure that the candidate will be admitted into the faculty. After reviewing the application, the Claussen-Simon Foundation will invite promising candidates for an interview (digital).  Please note, that the scholarship ends after one year or earlier if the candidate takes on a (third-party funded) job.
