Scholarship for young artists

We provide one-year scholarships to support young artists, musicians, and those active in the cultural scene who live in Hamburg and wish to pursue a freelance career or establish themselves as independent artists after completing their studies. Our goal is to give emerging artists the time and space to develop their artistic practice and build a sustainable career. Initial professional experiences in the artistic field are required. The stART.up program is open to artists from all disciplines, including visual and performing arts, music, film, photography, and literature.

The stART.up scholarship includes financial support of up to €1,400 per month (plus a child allowance of €300, if applicable). In addition, recipients are required to participate in seminars and workshops designed to enhance their professional skills, covering business, communication, and legal knowledge essential for a successful freelance career. The scholarship also includes discussion series and individual coaching sessions.

During the funding period, scholarship holders develop a project plan, in which they refine an artistic idea and create a concept for its realization. At the end of the year, they can use this project plan to apply for further funding.

In cooperation with the Departement for Arts and Media
