Online-Workshop mit Dr. Bayo Akomolafe zum Thema Postaktivismus: Let's Not Save the World

Saving the world seems like the thing to do now - especially in these moments struck through with wars and tensions and climate chaos. However, buried deep within the grand gesture of saving the world are patterns and tendencies that recentralize humans as the central agents and instigators of transformation. What might action look like if it proceeded with different parameters? This workshop explores Dr. Akomolafe's concept of postactivism. Postactivism is the monstrous eruption of new tensions, the emergence of grace, which forces new considerations and gestures. Postactivism is not a project, it is grace. In this workshop we examine the challenges of conceiving agency within the confines of anthropocentrism. We ask: what if the way we respond to the crisis is part of the crisis? We revisit questions about justice, about activism, about agency, and accountability. In conversation, digital performances of art-making-together, the workshop convenes a posthumanist/decolonial thesis for difference-making that makes a difference in troubling times.
Báyò Akómoláfé (Ph.D.), rooted with the Yoruba people in a more-than-human world, is the father to Alethea and Kyah, the grateful life-partner to Ije, son and brother. A widely celebrated international speaker, posthumanist thinker, poet, teacher, public intellectual, essayist, and author of two books, These Wilds Beyond our Fences: Letters to My Daughter on Humanity’s Search for Home (North Atlantic Books) and We Will Tell our Own Story: The Lions of Africa Speak, Bayo Akomolafe is the Founder of The Emergence Network and host of the online postactivist course, ‘We Will Dance with Mountains’. He currently lectures at Pacifica Graduate Institute, California and University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont. He sits on the Board of many organizations including Science and Non-Duality (US) and Local Futures (Australia). In July 2022, Báyò Akómoláfé was appointed the inaugural Global Senior Fellow of University of California’s (Berkeley) Othering and Belonging Institute. He has also been appointed Senior Fellow for The New Institute in Hamburg, Germany.
